Meet Andrew

Andrew Roscoe was born in Rochester Hills, Michigan in 1987. He graduated from Rochester High School and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in History and Political Science in 2009. While at Michigan, Andrew was a member of the Naval Reserve Officer's Training Corps battalion. He commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy in April 2009, shortly before graduation.

Embarking on a career as a Naval Aviator, Andrew attended Aviation Preflight Indoctrination at Naval Air Station Pensacola and conducted Primary Flight Training on the T-34C Turbomentor at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi. After selecting helicopters, he trained at Advanced Flight School at HT-18 at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, in Milton, Florida, where he was awarded his wings of gold in 2011. After training on the MH-60S Knighthawk helicopter at HSC-2, Andrew transferred to HSC-28, the Dragon Whales, where he deployed on USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) and USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20)  to the Fifth and Sixth Fleets. In 2015, Andrew became an Instructor Pilot at HT-18, teaching in the TH-57B/C Sea Ranger. For his outstanding efforts, he was awarded the Naval Helicopter Association's 2017 Training Command Flight Instructor of the Year Award. Andrew's last tour on active duty was as Safety Officer on board USS Kearsarge (LHD-3), where he conducted another deployment to the Middle East. Andrew left active duty in 2019 as a Lieutenant Commander and continues to serve as an officer in the Naval Reserve.

Andrew's life-long love of history began with seeing the film Gettysburg when he was a child. He has always been fascinated by the Civil War and it is his primary area of focus. After an interlude due to his naval service, Andrew continued on with his formal education, graduating from Norwich University in 2017 with a Masters of Arts in Military History. The focus of his capstone was on the 24th Michigan Volunteer Infantry at the Battle of Gettysburg, a subject that is dear to Andrew's heart.

Since then, Andrew has gone on to have works published in multiple venues as well as appeared as a guest historian in different productions. He is a regular visiting historian on The Civil War Digital Digest, a web-based video series aimed at superior Civil War education.
